INTERMODAL shipping

What is Intermodal Shipping?

Intermodal transportation involves the transportation of goods from shipper to consignee using two or more transportation modes. This offers a strategic and versatile approach to transporting goods, allowing for seamless transitions. This form of transportation helps to improve security, reduce damage and loss, and allows freight to be transported faster using trucks, rail, ships, or aircraft in various combinations.

Differences

Intermodal

Intermodal transportation uses a combination of different transport carriers and is sometimes better to achieve the best total shipping cost for door-to-door movements. It does, however, require more logistics coordination and hands-on involvement.

Multimodal

Multimodal Transport uses a single transport carrier to provide door-to-door movement, which may achieve the best routing, however, most carriers will not offer this service. Although Multimodal Transportation requires less logistics coordination and paperwork on the shipper’s end, it is often not possible to get a proper quote.
